ThinkstockPhotos-470481013.jpgThe Agents Council for Technology (ACT) brings agents, carriers, vendors, user groups and industry associations together in an effort to employ the best workflows and technologies available within the Independent Agency System.  this section includes some webinars presented by ACT that address areas of focus that are applicable to agencies E&O exposures.

This recorded webinar provides a great roadmap for independent agents as to how to comply with HIPAA & HITECH, if they are acting as 'business associates' under HIPAA, handling individually identifiable 'Protected Health Information' while producing and servicing life or health insurance. This briefing was provided to ACT's HIPAA Work Group by Bob Chaput of Clearwater Compliance.
Social media networking is expanding the ways that insurance agents and brokers do business. This merits an examination of the likely E&O risks flowing from the use of social media and E&O loss control techniques to neutralize the exposures.
The session outlined how federal and state law, as well as good risk management practice, have made it madatory for agencies to implement an information security program that is anchored by a written security plan. The program covered the security risks agencies face, practical steps to take to manage these risks, and the free tools and articles that ACT has produced to assist agencies with their security program--including a prototype agency information security plan.
